Evo all-in-one music system and Melomania 1+ true wireless earbuds both win in the Product Design category

British audio brand Cambridge Audio is the recipient of two Red Dot Design Awards 2022, for its Evo all-in-one system and Melomania 1+ true wireless headphones.

Both products received a Red Dot Award for Product Design 2022. The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions worldwide and appraises the best products, brands, communication works and design concepts of every year.

Red Dot said that products "from all over the world were scrutinised in detail and assessed in terms of their design quality and degree of innovation. The fact that [Evo and Melomania 1+] emerged victorious from such a strong group of participants is testimony to the extraordinary quality of [Cambridge Audio’s] products."

The Evo all-in-one music player (which comprises Evo 75 and Evo 150 models) combines Cambridge Audio's 50+ years of hi-fi expertise with cutting-edge technology, streaming smarts, and incredible audio performance in one beautifully designed box.

Designed in Cambridge Audio’s London studio, Evo’s timeless and minimal aesthetic was the focus of lead designer Ged Martin, who used industrial design principles to create a product that champions simplicity and will endure for many years. Taking inspiration from the iconic P40, Cambridge Audio’s first-ever amplifier from 1968, Evo has beautiful walnut wood side panels which can be switched out for textured black panels made from innovative and sustainable material Richlite.

Ged says: “I’m so pleased. Winning a Red Dot is a really proud moment for me. I’m delighted at the reception that Evo has had in its first year from hi-fi listeners around the world as well as the Red Dot judging panel.”

The popular Melomania 1+ true wireless headphones are designed to offer an outstanding audio experience at a competitive price, using Class A/B amplification – seen in Cambridge Audio’s hi-fi products – and custom-designed 5.8mm Graphene-enhanced drivers to provide an outstandingly detailed reproduction of music.

The discreet, super lightweight bullet-shaped earbuds eliminate pressure points for a comfortable fit and are designed to create a perfect seal that effectively minimises background noise and optimises audio quality. As well as being available via cambridgeaudio.com and Amazon, they are also sold via the MoMA Design Store.

James Johnson-Flint, CEO of Cambridge Audio, says of Melomania 1+: “This Red Dot Award is warmly received and brings with it thrilling recognition of the product’s iconic design. The bullet shape is different to pretty much every other earbud out there and it’s fantastic to be bestowed a highly sought after Red Dot seal of approval.”

The winning Cambridge Audio products will be published in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, as well as honoured at the Red Dot award ceremony on 20 June 2022 and displayed at the Red Dot Design Museum. in Essen, Germany until May 2023.
